Thinking about giveaway?

So I have been reviewing blogs for the past month and there sure are a lot of giveaways!  I'm curious how people do this?  Do they use their own money?  Do they get donations from companies?  Looks like many are given to people from companies.  How do they get these giveaways?  I'd like to try it but using my own funds?  I'm not sure.  Perhaps I need more followers for a give away?  Would you follow a blog just because there are giveaways?  I'm sure companies give this stuff away for a free review and more advertising but I only have so many followers?  Why would a company do this if the audience is not large?  I know - lot's of questions but I like to learn about things before I start doing them.

  1. I think most people get them from companies as pr, but you might have to do it from your pocket at first if you want to get more followers. I did one after my first month just as a thank you to my beginning readers and I didn't give extra entries for following, just one for leaving a comment. I've been thinking about contacting some companies now that I have a bigger following, but I might wait a little longer and do an out of pocket one first. I consider it sponsered by adsense :D

  2. Hmmmmn giveaways seem like a lot of work. I don't "give" on my Blog and don't go through on the gyrations on someone else's. Just not my thing. I just try to balance out my life.

  3. I think giveaways are fun - I know they're not everybody's thing, but your odds of winning a blog giveaway are much better than almost any other contest you can enter. Shoot me an e-mail at trp100329(at)cs(dot)com if you want some information about a giveaway. :)

  4. I don't follow a blog for a giveaway. But it looks like fun, haven't gone there yet.

  5. This post sounds just like one I posted when I had just started blogging. I mean, I've only been blogging for 2 months so I'm still new but I'm pretty sure you can do whatever you want and make whatever rules you want. Make it as original as you feel like. It could even be a giveaway of some of your favorite running things (that are on the cheaper end like GU, some kind of power bar, a water bottle, ear buds, etc.). My first and only giveaway was actually to help my friend with her personal custom designed card business. She gave away a set of 50 Christmas cards. Good luck. I don't always enter giveaways if they involve too much work because it is hard enough keeping up with this blog thing. ;)

  6. I have been wondering the exact same thing. I like a giveaway once in a while, but too many tends to put me off (I'm more reading for personal experiences tha to score on a giveaway). So I'll never be the girl who follows just for free goodies. That said, I still enter a bunch of em...

  7. I have been blogging almost a year and still consider myself new. I don't blog every day, although I am trying to do it more often. I like giveaways, but only enter a few. I like to enter the virtual races more than giveaways for giveaway's sake. I have noticed most people who do lots of giveaways have a home business and are served by adding followers through this method. I have done exactly 1 giveaway and it was out of pocket, low end power gels, luna bars, halloween socks etc. and I did it because I love Halloween and wanted to do something fun.

If you like to do product review then you might want to consider it.

  8. I've been wondering the same thing! I don't think I'd follow a blog just for a giveaway -- I have entered some of the giveaways of the blogs I do follow and have been lucky enough to win a couple!

I wouldn't mind doing product reviews cause I love checking out new stuff - but haven't figured out how to get started.

  11. A give away is totally up to you, alot of people do it to get followers, I know alot of bloggers that spend alot of time writing to companies for free goods to review and give away, I dont do them, you will learn that alot of the followers that come over are here for the giveaway and never come to your blog again
