My first 1-mile race coming.....

The Michigan Mile!  For those that don't know, it's located in Flint, Michigan the weekend of August 23rd and 24th.

I've always wanted to race a mile race.  It sounds like fun, right?  This race is going to be the day before the Crim 10 miler that I'm also running.  Ok, to be honest, it's probably not the best time to try to run like crazy the day before a 10 miler.  I'm not looking to get hurt - I'm looking to have fun so I'll just run however I feel.  Check out the course:

There will be a professional one mile race at 7pm on that Friday as well.  That's probably one of the most exciting parts about this race.  I can't wait to see the elite runners, who are coming, by invitation only, to run this race with a total purse prize of $10,000.  I'm sure we will be seeing some REALLY fast runners.  I hope to get a couple pictures.  Then at 7:15pm will be us regular Joe's.  Ok, there will probably still be some 5 minute milers in there too, so maybe not all regular Joe's, but it should be fun regardless.

Check out the bling you get too:
I saw this medal at the Dexter to Ann Arbor expo and knew it was one I had to add to my running medals.  I wish I had taken a picture of it then to show you the real thing.  How many chances are you going to get to have a medal like this?  Plus being able to see the elites will be an experience in itself.  You also get a cotton T-shirt with the race too.  All that for $20 - not a bad price at all!

Of course, my wife thinks I'm crazy....and she's probably right.  Yes, I'll be driving 45 minutes to a race that takes about 7 minutes to run and then 45 minutes back home.  Yet, then the next day I'll drive back to run the 10 mile Crim race and then drive back home again.  I know, I could stay at a hotel but it's not really necessary - it just saves me time but not money so I'm make the trek twice.  Fortunately, I'll be at least running the 10 miler with my running buddy.

Fortunately, for me, my work has an office in Grand Blanc so I've already gotten the Ok to work there that day so I can head to the expo right after work and get to the race.  At least I won't have to fight rush hour there on Friday evening.

So there you have it, this is why I decided to run a one mile race.  How could I pass it up?

Interested in running this or the Crim, go HERE to check it out.   The Crim is one of my favorite races and will be my third time running it so I'm sure the one mile will not disappoint.

11 miles on the schedule today.  We took it out to Stony Creek and it was quite busy out there!  We kept a pretty good pace around 8:36 average and that included the hills at Stony which I am so out of shape for running.  I need to get more of those hills in.  Overall, I felt pretty good for that pace though.

Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!

  1. I think I have to do that race just for the medal itself. Seriously. Good luck with your training. I am training for the Grand Rapids full. Loved your race report on it.
