Tommie Copper compression review

Rest day on the schedule today.  Leg is feeling better - hopefully enough to do 20 tomorrow.  I'll play it by ear.

-------------------

Jordan over at TommieCopper was nice enough to sent me a sample of their compression wear for the calves and also for the knees to do a review.  I was really interested in trying these since I have heard all the benefits of compression.  The unique thing about Tommie Copper is that there is actually copper in the material that is supposed to help with healing.  Here a picture of me wearing their product:
Calf sleeves

Knee Sleeves

And what they look like when not actually on me:

I wore these before running, during running, and after running.  I actually wore them most after my running.  I do like the calf sleeves.  They don't feel too tight but you can feel the benefits of the compression.  According to their website, they were made so that the compression would be comfortable so that you could wear their products all day.  I did wear the calf sleeves for several hours.  They do stay in place when running and they do stay in place when wearing them all day(at least the hours I wore them).  I'm not sure I can "feel" the benefits of the copper in the material, although they were comfortable and did make my legs feel better.

As far as the knee sleeves, I actually wore one of the sleeves all day from the time I went to work until I got home from work.  I did that because my IT Band was sore and I was hoping that these would help it.    While my leg did feel better, I'm not sure I noticed the difference from just using the foam roller like I do daily.  Also, the knee sleeves kept falling down during the day so I would have to keep pulling it up.  If I put the sleeve on and just sat in front of the TV, then they stayed in place but once you moved around they tend to bunch up on you.  I'm sure this is because the top of the sleeve is going on a large diameter of your leg and it's natural tendency is to move down.  There is material at the top and bottom to help keep them in place but they just would not stay for me.

Overall, I could see the benefits of having the calf sleeve but I think that there needs to be some kind of design change on the knee sleeves to help them in place.

  1. Interesting review! I tried both products as well, and loved the calf sleeves but didn't find the knee sleeves beneficial.

  2. The text was really hard for me to read... until I highlighted it!

I liked my Tommie Copper calf sleeves... but the compression item I LOVE LOVE LOVE would be my thigh-high maternity compression stockings. They are freakin' amazing. I need to do a product review of those things. They do look ridiculous... but man, they are incredible.

  3. I tried the same products, but just couldn't love them like it seems everyone else out there does. Thank you for your honest review! Now I don't feel alone :).

  5. Great review! I enjoy reading gear reviews and writing them when I get something new. I have read several reviews on the Tommie Copper compression gear and they all seem to be mixed. I am currently using CEP calf sleeves and socks and love them (especially after a long run), but don't really know what, if anything, they really do for me. I have been using them though, so I'm not gonna stop now! lol

Anyway, great blog and a great review. Now I need to enter your sport hook giveaway!

    Keep writing and running.

  11. I injured my knees back in July of 2011. I started running 4 then 5 miles two days a week for a few weeks on a treadmill. Then decided to see how fast I could do 2 miles. After that my knees were very sore near the joints. In the months to follow I played sports a few times, but a month ago I played basketball and then again a week later. Now I cant run short distances without pain. Being 26, in decent shape, and not being able to run stinks! Have any idea if I tore something and do you think these sleeves will help?

  12. Anonymous - if you think you might have torn something then these are probably not going to help. Go see a doctor.

  13. Shoot! The pain is not unbearable, is there still a chance I tore something or could it be really sore? I wear 2 knee braces I got at Rite Aid and they seem to help.

    1. anonymous - Your knees are nothing to wonder about. If you wait too long you could do more damage that may be irreversible. Its better to get it checked early to avoid future tears.

  14. The workmanship is shoddy. The fingerless gloves are just the full fingered gloves with the ends cut off. There is not even any attempt to seal the loose threads. After less than a week the seams on the gloves started to separate. As for the elbow sleeves, despite what they advertise they do still “roll down” on you. This product is not worth the money and their return policy leaves you in the loss column. If you want to return the poorly manufactured items you not only have to pay to ship them back but also there is no refund on your original shipping cost.

  15. I purchased a knee sleeve and like the product. The shipping and handling fees are another story. They charged $5.35 shipping and $3.00 handling. that is a total of $8.35 for a package that actually cost $1.64 to ship. I run my own business and ship packages every day and a 3 oz. package 1st class USPS anywhere in the U.S. is $1.64 add maybe .50 cent for the envelope and that brings the cost of shipping to $2.14. There $8.35 charge is roughly 4 times the actual cost. I guess they aren't making enough on the product alone??? I called customer service about the issue and all they could say is that they use an outside service to do the shipping. Very poor business practices for a good product.

  16. Do they sell a comparable product at Modells or a similar type of store..

  17. I purchased 2 pair of the knee supports wore them for 2 days .Sent back to TC .They did little or nothing to help. Went back to my velcro supports , supported much better. Overall i believe TC is more about making money than anything else.
