Up Next, my First Tri......

Yes, it's hear.....really!  Frankly, I cannot believe it.  It seems like I signed up for this ages ago.  Actually is was a long time ago - March 29 to be exact.  Who thinks of these things during winter?

Now keep in mind that it's only a Sprint Tri and, while there is some distance to this, I kind of equate it to when I ran my first 5k.  A little nervous but I'll make it through.  The venue will be at Stony Creek Metropark which is very close to my home and that makes for a nice day since I won't have to get up at 4am to be there.  Packet pickup is the day before too so I'll go out the day before and get my packet and get numbered.

We will be doing an 800 meter swim(equivalent to about 0.5 mile swim), then we will take a 17km bike ride and finally a 5km run.

The swim, of course, will be in Stony Creek Lake starting at the beach.  I've done one practice swim.  Yes, you heard me right.  One.  Given that, I have no expectations on the swim except to get through it and I'll probably be last since I'm really slow.  Perhaps I should have swam a little more.  Oops.

The bike will take us a little bit on the roads but mostly the bike will take us on the mountain bike trails which are really fun.  I've trained on the trails over the last couple month and feel fairly Ok about it(confident huh?) except for one large hill that I'll have a easier time running up the hill with my bike than biking it.  Two loops around the track and then back to transition.

The run, assuming I survive the swim and bike, will take us out of the park on an out and back course off Snell road which is dirt.

See you at the finish line!

  1. Good luck, Jeff! I find that winter (or wintery spring) in our area always leads me to want to sign up to "run all the things!" I'm sure you'll do great. Looking forward to the recap. :)

  2. Good luck! Start the swim out away from the buoys...you're less likely to get kicked in the face :)
