Recovery.....

Five miles on the schedule today.  I was going to take off today but my legs felt pretty good so I decided to run today.  I did skip the cross training though and will run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and take off Friday so I can run on Saturday again.

---------------------------

Back in January when I was thinking about what I wanted to do for running this year, I decided I wanted to just run one marathon this year.  I think that was the right decision for me as I'm looking forward to backing off on miles.  So....when I complete this one in less than three weeks, I have a recovery period training program that I'm going to follow for four weeks after that(Higdon).

Once that is done, I need to decide what I'm going to do going forward.  I will have a possible 10 mile race in June, a 10 mile race in August, and a half marathon in Sept and October so I have plenty on the schedule.  My question for everyone is do you think I should follow a half marathon plan?  I'm doing the Hal Higdon Intermediate I plan now(for the marathon) and will look at his plans as well.  I'm not sure I want to start out from scratch again.  In other words, I have a base mileage --- let's say that's 25 miles per week.  I know that I could do no plan and just do three five mile runs during the week and a 10 miler on the weekend to keep my base and run a half fairly easy.  The other thing I'm thinking about doing is trying to improve on my speed for the half marathon which would mean more miles and perhaps even training as if I were going to do another marathon.

Not sure what to do at this point since I have not started my research.  So please give me your thoughts on the subject.  I know everyone is different but I'm just looking at what other peoples thoughts are.

Have a great day and.....Keep Running!!!!!

  1. I would follow the Half Marathon training plan - I do that now. Even if I don't have a Half Marathon until the following season, I still try to stick to some sort of training plan.

  2. I am going to say keep with the half marathon training plan. I'm at the point now that I will build up to marathon mileage from that and do it slowly so I don't have the same injury issues I had last year. We do have smaller marathons in IL you can make a short ride out to and become a Marathon Maniac in the process! Just saying...

  3. I've never actually followed a training plan so my advise is probably useless.

  4. I think you can totally do the half without following a plan. Your mileage is up so if you want to PR, I'd just focus more on speedwork and keep some longer runs around 15 miles.

  5. I would stay with the half marathong training. It's hard trying to find things that you like to mix your workout up a little
