What a chicken!

Holy Cow! It's cold outside.  12 degrees with a real feel of MINUS 4 degrees.  I chickened out and ran on the treadmill.  We all have our limits don't we?  6 miles today at 8:34 pace.  You know it's cold when I WANT to run on the treadmill.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, we have 31 people so far that want to run the the first annual "I just felt like running" virtual 5k.  Yes, I know you area probably already sick of hearing about this 5k but it giving me something to write about.  Here is how it breaks down so far:

6 men
25 women

We have the following states(19) included so far:  NY, MD, RI, CA(2), MA, MI(9), CT, PA, GA, NE, VA, MO, IA, IL, WI, LA, AZ, NC

We also have two runners from other countries:  South Africa, Italy

I am really surprised to see so many from my home State of Michigan.

I know that all cannot join us at Stoney Creek but it's great to see I'm not the only one suffering through these temperatures.  Of the 9, maybe 4 might commit to being at Stoney Creek.  Perhaps when we get closer to the date everyone can decide.  The other surprise is that most of our runners are running in States with really cold weather(although I'm sure some are on the treadmill like I was today)

We still need people from Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming.

If you know anyone from these states, please ask them to join the blog and the virtual race.  I would love to see all 50 states involved and also more countries!

Have a great day and.....Keep Running!

  1. Don't blame you for the treadmill run - it's suppose to be Zero...yes zero here tomorrow! So I'll be doing my first 7 miles on the 'mill - hopefully football will help to pass the time!

    Have a great weekend!

  2. yeah, i have rules about running in windchills below zero! that's way too cold. it would take just as long to find all the layers you would need to survive as it would to actually get the run done.

  3. It's spitting snow again here, and freezing! Just a bit too slippery for anything but the treadmill.

  4. I am trying not to chicken out over my 9 mile run tomorrow...it is supposed to "feel like" 0 degrees!! Bah!!

  5. What? No outside run today? I was totally thinking of you as I *was* out there in 7 degrees with a windchill of -9 and 15 mph wind. Got in a 6 miler! I get so hot near the end of my runs that I end up removing my gloves 'cuz my hands are sweaty -- even today. Have a good weekend.

  6. I see you are reading Unbroken. One of my favorite books of all time! So inspiring to be a better person.

  7. Jeff, you are a smarted man than me! We were out at Stony Creek and it started okay but the wind picked up and I think my nose froze off! It didn't kill us, so I guess we stronger.....

  8. I would love to join your virtual 5k, Jeff. You can now add Canada to the list (I'm in Toronto, ON). :)

  9. You still got your Man Card in my book. Maybe you had a better run on the treadmill. My treadmill go/no-go temp is 39 :-)

  10. Since I was doing a little test run today (all of a mile 1/2) I did it outside, even though it was about 18 degrees w/ windchill in the single digits. I HATE cold weather, but it was a treat to be out there!

  11. I'm FROM Colorado. Would that count? ;)

Wish I had a treadmill today! And perhaps tomorrow, too. Not because it's cold but because the road I generally run is terrible. It snowed, then got packed down; then the road got plowed, tearing the road all to hell (it's gravel); then it melted, then it refroze...

  12. I'll join the 5k! I'm from Ohio - don't hate me because of that though! :)

  14. You're not chicken. I don't run outside in negative windchill either! I think it's just nuts!!! I will be hitting the treadmill in a little bit. Sometimes the TM isn't so bad. I can't remember, did I sign up?? If not, I want to.

  16. I ran on the treadmill today and mostly so I would not get sick. I have a slight sniffle and running outside may make it worse.

  17. Will the foreigners be timed in "Euro's?" That's faster ya know.

  18. I'll sign up for Tennessee, although the 5k might be part of a longer run!

  19. It was cold out today. If there had been wind I don't think I would have gotten out there. Hopefully by the time the 5k rolls around it won't be as cold outside!

  20. Fresh is usually better than frozen (at least with chicken), do I'm glad you took the treadmill option and got it done. I hope spring comes your way soon.

  23. I feel like a chicken too -- I was actually a little relieved to be sick today so I had an excuse to take a break from the sub zero wind chill!

  25. I was just telling my friend about the 5k and she was pumped. She's from MN but doesn't have a blog and wants to do it with me. Does this count? Hope the weather warms up for you real soon. Brrrrr

  26. I would definitely not classify you in the Chicken category for running on the TM with a wind chill of minus 4 outside! I'll see who I can get to join us from some of the other states.

  27. Jim - ha. No sorry. LOL.

Terri - sounds good, I'll add you

XLMIC - that would be great!

Danny - hoping you join us.

Marathonmaiden - she does not need a blog. She just needs to follow mine and tell me she's in and that's good for me.

Vera - thanks. It would be fun knowing we had all 50 states included.
