Outside again

Well from the sounds of the posts yesterday, just about everyone got snow in their area.  I heard a weather report this morning that said every state had snow except Florida.  That included Hawaii in the mountains!  Anyway, I got back out there today.  I did 4 miles today.  What was on the schedule?  3 miles!!  Oops.  I thought my schedule was for 4 miles so that's what I did.  I didn't want to run back home after three and find out I needed to go back out for another mile so I just did for.  Oh well.  Not a big deal.  It was really cold this morning.  16 degrees with a wind chill of 10 degrees.  Today I used one extra layer.  I really need to get a vest because I just wanted it for my core area as my arms already get pretty warm.  The streets were pretty much plowed so it was not bad running.  A friend of mine said just consider the snow resistance training and get out there.  He said only use the treadmill if it's too cold out.  The cold really does not bother me that much - it's the snow you have to tread through that I don't like.  It really kills your running form - at least it does mine.  Here's a picture of what's it looked like around here on Tuesday night:

How about you?  Are you back out there now after you got snow?  I know most of you got it.

Have a great day and.....Keep Running!

  2. I have not been running outside. There has been too much snow on the roads and its been too dangerous! I had to suffer on the treadmill instead.

  3. Great job running in such crazy condidtions. I know many folks would just stay home in thier warm beds! It's 20F right now and I am trying very hard to not be one of the "many folks"! Cheers!

  4. Even if I was brave enough to run in the snow, the plows neglected to come back to my neighborhood after our second round of snow yesterday, so I think I'd probably end up with some broken bones if I tried to run. Walking was hard enough!

  5. Great job getting out there! It is tough in the snow...it was a good reminder to think of it as resistance training...I know that this will only make us strongers once the sidewalks/roads are clear!

  6. Since I decided to sleep this morning versus going to the gym to run, I will be braving the cold & ice tonight.

I do not mind running in the snow, in fact, I love it. But I HATE the cold!

  7. I will be honest, I've been a slacker this week. At the beginning of the week I was resting my knee, then the snow and now it's Thursday!! :(

  8. I was out in the snow this weekend, and Tuesday am....but opted for the treadmill this morning. Not because of the cold...but because of some calf pain (sliding around in the snow didn't seem like a good idea).

This winter stuff is kinda fun!!!!! :-)

  9. An 8:22 pace through snow?! You are gonna rock Bayshore!

I enjoy how peaceful it is to be the first one out in the snow and how quiet everything is. I don't enjoy frozen toes or chapped skin. :o)

  11. I'm a wimp, I ran on the treadmill today. I thought about going outside, but it is extremely icy and knowing myself I would definitely end up on my booty.

  12. I ran Tuesday which is when we got dumped on over here. I have decided that I hate snow on the ground ALMOST as much as I hate wind.

  15. Mallory - you can do it, get out there!

    Nej - nurse the calf.

    tahoe Girl - I'm hoping

danny - I hate rain too but would run in it if it's warm.

Katie - icy is much different than snow.

    Claire - I couldn't agree more.

    Glenn - Yes, I'm jealous!!!!

Marathonmaiden - Way to go! I might be more apt to go if I had someone to run with in a blizzard. There's no way I'm doing that alone.
