Favorite winter run...

3 miles on the schedule today....done!  Feels like temperature of 17 degrees.  They say you feel like a bad ass running in tough weather.  I say I just don't know better.  Yes, I do have a treadmill.  No, I will not be using it unless I have to.

----------

Freezing - that was the theme for today's run.  While it was only three miles, my feet were frozen even with wool socks on.  I think if I ran 5-6 today, my feet would have warmed up.  Plus I think everyone in the world is off today for Christmas except for me.  There was even less driver's out there today at 5am than usual.

Fortunately, for me, I get off work a couple hours early today which is nice of them to close early for us.  I'm looking forward to the three day weekend.

Is anyone running on Christmas Eve or Christmas?  I plan on being out at Stoney Creek Metropark tomorrow with my running buddy for an eight miler.  Since neither of us have family obligations in the morning, it will work out perfectly.  It will be interesting to see how many people will be there tomorrow.  While we don't have any snow just yet, when we do it's nice to run here since they plow the six mile loop around the lake for runners.  A nice benefit when you are facing a cold run outside.
Love to run here!

Question of the day:  Do you have a favorite Winter running place.

Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!

  1. I have to work today too :( Nice job on the 3 despite the cold temps. I'm in the same mindset as you. Putting off mill as long as possible. We've been so spoiled recently. I will most definitely be running both christmas eve and day. Too bad you're so far away, I would totally meet you guys and run with you (well rather behind you). I'll be heading out solo, but I'm looking forward to getting in a little bit of a longer run one of those days.

  2. We'll be out at Stony tomorrow too! I'm thinking of getting the team off the path for their 8 miles. We're also going for breakfast afterwards........

  5. I do have to say I'm one of those people that gets two weeks over Christmas - a huge perk for working in a school. Yesterday was my last day until Jan 9th and I do have to say that my first thought was, "awesome, now I can run whenever I want!" I'll be running an informal half marathon with my group Christmas Eve morning to counteract the desserts I'll be eating for the next two days :)

  6. I will probably be at Stony much of this winter like last winter. It's so nice to have a place with a cleared path once the snow hits, especially because I'm super paranoid about slipping. I love that we have a place like Stony, but I know I will get sick of it by the end of winter. I always dread days with any wind because there are a few rough spots there where it can get bad.

I can't get my long run in tomorrow morning, so I will probably try to get one in on Christmas morning. After today I'm off until the 3rd and I'm looking forward to running in daylight at least a couple times again! I hope you have a good run tomorrow. By the way, I think you ran past us at Stony last Saturday morning. One of these days if I see you I'll have to say hi. :)

  7. Saturday I'll be out doing a solo 12-13 miler. Sunday is up in the air at this point. Because we don't have much snow yet, I can run on the forest trails.

Once winter really hits I'm pretty limited to where I can run. I try to stick to quieter roads as they are plowed and there's not as much traffic to contend with. I don't mind running in the snow and cold, but being more of a trail person the roads start to wear on me after awhile. When I can, I prefer to get into the woods with skis or snowshoes.

  8. Hey Jeff! Couldn't look away from a blog that involves Detroit and running! I live in Colorado but my husband is from Fraser! I ran the Stony Creek 5K last May - placed and won a nifty pint glass! Loved it out there, despite the many, many, many hills! Going to run the Detroit marathon this fall if (again) I don't get into NY.
