Yeah, this happened......

Yeah, yeah, I know I wasn't supposed to sign up for a marathon until next year.  In fact, I even told my wife - "Don't let me sign up in 2013 to run a marathon no matter what!"  What can I say?  I'm still attracted to the distance even though it's not my favorite distance.

I originally decided to run one in spring of 2014.  The more I thought about it, the more I decided why not run one this fall?  So yes, this happened:

Marathon #5 - Indianapolis Monumental Marathon.  It should be fun and both my running buddies will be training for Detroit and one of them is running this one with me as well(two weeks later!!!!) so I'll have plenty of company to train on the weekends.

This is my first(and hopefully last) attempt to BQ.  Can I do it? - I can't answer that today but I'll go through the training and see how it goes.  It's my best chance at a BQ since the course is flat, flat, flat and the weather is sure to be cool.  Also, even though I'll only be 44 when I run this marathon, I can use BQ times for the 45-49 age group since I'll be 45 when I run Boston in 2015(notice I said when and not if)  The goal time?  3:25:00  My PR is 3:38:20 so it's a huge goal.

Now I need to decide on a training program.  I narrowed it down to three - Hal Higdon's Intermediate II schedule, Hanson's marathon method or Pete Pfitzinger's Advance Marathoning.  Of course, I ran Higdon's plan for Grand Rapids and PR'd the race but Hanson's and Pfitzinger's plans seems appealing(and tougher) and I've seen so many PR with it as well.

What training plan have you used?

Have a great day and....Keep Running!!!!

  1. Wow! You broke your vow! you are a diehard marathoner at heart. I'd try to see if I can nail the race predictor for the half marathon BQ times along the way. Good thing is, I think you could use your time for 2015 as well, which I am sure you already know. Godspeed!

    1. Yes, the plan is to run 2015, NOT 2014. It will be too difficult to get into 2014 I think and would need probably 10-15 per mile faster.

  4. I was thinking about you the other day and I had a feeling you were going to do another. You've been running healthy and working on your core, so why not? I truly believe you can BQ. Your last marathon pace blew me away!
